ONE MILLION EUROS IN A PLASTIC BAG
FANTASTIC COMPANY FIGURES ON DESASTROUS POWERPOINT SLIDES – THE REASON WHY PRESENTATIONS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE FOR BOARD MEMBERS.
A board member carries important information. Often worth millions. A lot depends on those information and the findings gained from them. Jobs, strategies, solutions.
When a board member walks up on stage, everyone falls silent. People stop talking, chairs won’t be moved around any more. The tension is nearly visible. It is now getting serious. It is now getting interesting. What will be announced? Which figures will be presented? What does that mean for me?
Like this or in a similar way, verbal millions find their way to the ears of the audience. But how are these millions packaged? In creepy bullet point parades? In desastrously animated bar charts? Let’s be honest – the layout still plays a role!
EVERY TIME WHEN MONEY IS INVOLVED, THE PRESENTATION SHOULD REPRESENT ITS VALUE.
If I withdraw one million from a bank account, I will expect an elegant leather suitcase. If I transport such a high amount in a plastic or jute bag, you will get the impression that I got the money out of a ransom demand or a bank robbery. The same is valid for important information. They will only be taken seriously and will be appreciated if they are presented accordingly. Important messages should consist of significant content, wrapped into enriching slides and communicated by an impressive speaker – in the leather Louis Vuitton suitcase of presentations so to speak. And not in a defamatory diagram drama which is equal to the plastic bag.
Messages will only be communicated in a confident way if you don’t hand them over in a visual plastic bag but in a respectful, important way and on equal terms. This is the reason why executive-level departments spend hours creating PowerPoint presentations. A lot is at stake. Sometimes everything.
For instance, when a new site has to be esatblished in the Silicon Valley such as in the case of the Merck company. The presentation moved the local technology business field because they informed partners as well as start-ups. But also in order to publish a strategy. The conference participants of the Bosch ConnectedWorld 2018 learned in a comprehensible and transparent way how the Deutsche Post DHL Group was set up for the future. MHP, a Porsche company, expresses the value of their employers through an impressive employer presentation at a costly event. And they inspire them every year anew in this way. Daniel Grieder planned a larger two-day-event, the Thanksgiving Meeting in Amsterdam, where 400 international managers were taken on a strategic journey of PVH Europe, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein.
WE WILL BE SEEN THE WAY WE PRESENT.
Stefan Oschmann (Merck), Dr. Frank Appel (Deutsche Post DHL Group), Dr. Ralf Hofmann (MHP A Porsche Company) or Daniel Grieder (Tommy Hilfiger Global, PVH Europe) are aware of it. They work together with EXPLAIN. Because they don’t like plastic bags.
